Are you considering a private school as an option for your child? As you may well already know there are many options available to you.
There is a host of private school's out there from Military Academies, to Boarding School's and even Religious Institutions.
Once the selection process is complete, it's time to focus on the passing the admission requirements.
You'll need to arrange for your child's prior school transcripts to be made available, and obviously any personal recommendations you can muster up can help with the process.
Now in addition to all the basic requirements, your son or daughter will be expected to pass an entrance exam too. The two most commonly used tests are the ISEE, and the SSAT.
Let's take a look at the basic elements of the SSAT, the most commonly used test.

The SSAT exam comes in 2 levels. For students in the 5th to 7th grades or (middle school) it's known as the lower level.
For those in the 9th grade thru 12th grade (high school), it's referred to it as the upper level.

Testing is done during the Fall and Winter months (October thru June).The SSAT consists of 4 multiple choice sections and 1 writing element and is 155 minutes in length.
- Writing Element -- Students are provided 25 minutes to complete an essay on 1 topic. Even though this portion of the test won't be graded, a copy will be provided to the school you are applying for.
- Reading -- In this section students have 40 minutes to answer 40 questions. This portion measures comprehension.
- Verbal -- Students have 30 minutes to complete 60 questions. The verbal test will discover the child's vocabulary knowledge, and is broken down into 30 questions on analogies and 30 on synonyms.
- Quantitative /Math -- 50 questions with a 60 minute time limit. The Math portion has 2 30 minute segments consisting of 25 problems each. Students are challenged with a wide range from basic arithmetic, to algebra and geometry.
