flip 8gb ultra hd review
Flip has finally stepped up to the table with a much needed upgrade to their core Flip MinoHD and UltraHD lines. With dozens of pocket camcorder's filling the market (most with 1080p), we all were wondering when Flip would upgrade.
The first major upgrade starts out with the 4gb Flip Ultra HD Model, which at $149 captures one full hour of 720p video at 30 fps. A pretty great price, but not the higher end model of the latest line. The more notable model packed with additions is the 8gb Ultra HD, which has a new rubber casing that is 20% slimmer and finally features gained image stabilization, all for just $199.99. The 8GB Ultra shoots 720p/60 video, which according to Cisco will keep the file sizes easier to share while still maximizing the video quality. Although the 1080p/30 mode wouldn't have made things more complicated, Flip chose to keep their one button simplicity.
The 8gb Ultra hd camcorder comes with a new FlipPort expansion port, the centerpiece of the "Designed for Flip" accessory program. The FlipPort can be used to plug all kinds of things into. The Scoshe wireless microphone, an iGo pico projector, and a SeaGate portable hard drive / storage extender are the highlights of the launch lineup. According to Cisco you can expect tons of Designed for Flip accessories to hit the market over time. Look for a Bower magnetic wide angle lens and loads of new cases.
The Mino HD line boasts some upgrades as well. There is a new image stabilizer and 720p/60 video mode. $179.99 will be the retail price for the new silver 4GB MinoHD, and $229.99 will get you the matte black 8GB MinoHD.
